Each aesthetic option for orthodontic treatment has advantages and disadvantages. Read on to find out which option is best for you!
OPTION 1: WHAT ARE CLEAR BRACES AND HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT THAT METAL?
Clear braces are typically made of ceramic which is better known as glass. Just like a drinking glass, these braces will not stain when exposed to colored drinks or food. Clear braces are virtually invisible and the thin wire connecting the braces can barely be seen. At Coreil Orthodontics we use Symetri Clear braces for our patients wanting an aesthetic option. I was part of the team that designed and created this bracket. Unlike aligners, clear braces remain on the teeth giving you the freedom to now worry if they are working. Thanks to superior materials and design these clear braces works just like metal allowing for comfortable and efficient treatment without the metal braces look!!
OPTION 2: WHAT ARE LINGUAL BRACES AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
Lingual braces are placed on the inside teeth thus they cannot be seen by anyone but the orthodontist and team. When lingual braces are used your friends, family and colleagues will never, ever know that you have braces. Lingual braces have been frequently used by celebrities allowing them to secretly get the perfect smile without anyone knowing. Braces on the inside do require some adjustment due to contact with the tongue but overall the benefit of NO BRACES SHOWING makes this worthwhile. Lingual braces can be used for almost any patient but many orthodontists do not offer this option because of the technical challenge of working on the inside of the teeth. OPTION 3: WHAT ARE ALIGNERS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
Aligners are thin clear covers that fit over your teeth and incrementally you’re your teeth into an ideal position. The aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. The ability to remove the aligner and clean teeth normally are welcomed by many patients who desire super clean teeth. The downside of removal is the fact that patient cooperation is needed to obtain the desired result. Aligners require attachments, small tooth-colored bumps, allowing the aligner to snap into position and move teeth properly. The combination of attachments and aligners can usually be seen from the outside so ask questions about how this will look on your teeth. Aligners can be used for most patients and remain a great option for those wanting to avoid metal braces.
